Bulldozer's have dug enough clay to fill the University of Tennessee's Neyland Stadium while carving out a half-mile long, underground track where, within three years, subatomic elements will be scattered and studied. Scientists hope the Spallation Neutron Source facility will lead to revolutionary breakthroughs in everything from manufacturing to medicine. This is not a facility to do one big experiment. Instead, it's going to answer thousands of smaller scientific questions across a lot of fields and, in the process, produce incredible benefits for our country and this region," said Thomas Mason, associate director for the $1.4 billion project."
